In place of Choral Evensong
A Sermon in Music
The Saviour | William Lloyd Webber
Come and hear William Lloyd Webber’s deeply moving account of Christ’s Passion, sung by the Choir of Leeds Minster. The libretto, by Bryn Rees, spells out in hopeful terms the redemptive power of what he calls ‘the saving act of God’, and it found a powerful advocate in the mid-twentieth-century composer William Lloyd Webber.
Father of Sir Andrew and Julian, both outstanding musicians, William Lloyd Webber was an exceptionally gifted and technically capable composer. This work, which was recorded by the Minster Choir together with St Peter’s Singers last November for the Priory label is full of fine melodies and colourful harmonies, with some uplifting and passionate moments that stay long in the memory.
