Congratulations on your engagement! We are delighted that you are considering a marriage service at Leeds Minster.
In terms of eligibility, the current Church of England rules state that you can get married in a church if:
You are British Citizens, and:
or
or
If you are not British Citizens, please do let us know and we’d be happy to discuss the (slightly different) process.
As you can see, there are a number of different ways for you to be eligible. If you don’t live in the parish (and don’t meet any of the other criteria), we ask that you attend regularly for at least 6 months before we are able to hold your wedding.
If you’d like to discuss any of these further, or are unsure if you meet the criteria, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. If you would like to proceed, please let us know which of the criteria you meet, or that you’re willing to attend for 6 months, and we will arrange a meeting with a member of clergy. We look forward to hearing from you.
We do consider marrying divorced people depending on the circumstances. If either of you are divorced please email to arrange a meeting with a member of clergy before proceeding to book in a date.
We do not usually hold weddings on Sundays or between Christmas and New Year.
