A celebration of music written by Organists of York Minster for choirs at Leeds Minster (formerly Leeds Parish Church). St Peter’s Singers give this recital in tribute to Dr Francis Jackson who died earlier this year aged 104 and was a great friend of Leeds Minster.
The programme includes Jackson’s Stabat Mater, commissioned by St Peter’s Singers in 1997 as well as some of his better known works, such as the Benedicite, which was sung at HM Queen’s Platinum Jubilee service earlier this year, his Evening service in G, and the sublime Evening Hymn.
We also honour his predecessor, Sir Edward Bairstow, who wrote Let all mortal flesh keep silence while Organist at Leeds Parish Church, and his successor, Philip Moore, who wrote Tu es Petrus for St Peter’s Singers in 2017, and From Earth to Heaven, for Leeds Parish Church on the occasion of the dedication of the Sally Scott window depicting Jacob’s Ladder in 1999.
St Peter’s Singers welcome the Senior choir of Abbey Grange Academy and the York University Brass Ensemble to join in this celebration.
