Lunch and talk with Jonathan Clatworthy – What does it mean to describe Jesus as Christ?

Sun 5th May

12.15pm - 2.00pm

Admission: Free, please book here

Jonathan Clatworthy has co-edited a new book, What Christ? Whose Christ? New Options for Old Theories. Jonathan has lived in Guiseley with his wife Marguerite since 2020, and is a retired vicar, university chaplain and tutor in Theology and Ethics. His co-editor, Alan Race, is an interfaith specialist.

Traditional accounts of Christ, as in the Creeds, are usually based on church councils of the fourth and fifth centuries. Many Christians now find them unconvincing. Meanwhile Jews, Hindus, Buddhists and feminists are often attracted by what they know of Jesus but repelled by claims that the divinity of Christ makes Christianity the only true faith.

Come and hear Jonathan describe the book, ask your questions and share your thoughts with other people.

The question posed by the person and work of Jesus, “Who do you say that I am?” continues to lie at the heart of Christian faith. In this compelling collection, historical and contemporary perspectives combine to help us to revisit this enduring question and to reimagine how to speak of Christ in a changing world.
