Unpacking the Eucharist: The Hook Memorial Series

Mon 30th Jun

7.00pm - 9.00pm

At All Soul’s Church, Blackman Lane, LS2 9EY
Admission: Free

Organised by All Souls’ Church

We are so familiar with the Mass, the Eucharist or Holy Communion, but we can still be uncertain about why we do what we do, and the significance behind what is taking place. Over the four sessions, Father Andrew Nunn will unpack the principal elements that we experience, either through receiving or celebrating.

All are welcome to join. No booking required.

Please note this series is NOT held at the Minster, but at All Souls’ Church, Blackman Lane (just off Woodhouse Road near the University of Leeds)

The ‘Hook Memorial Series’ will take place at All Souls’ [Hook Memorial] Church throughout 2025, as we approach the 150th Anniversary of Dr Walter Hook’ death on 20th October 1875.

We remember Dr Hook’s gift and legacy to the City of Leeds, for the spiritual, educational and social initiatives which still touch many of us today.

The Very Reverend Andrew Nunn will start the series focusing on the importance of The Eucharist/Holy Communion or The Mass in Anglo Catholic worship.

Dr Hook returned to traditional liturgical practices and in particular his commitment to The Oxford Movement and Anglo Catholic worship, with its focus on the senses, which enriched the spiritual experience of workers, and counteracting the influence of nonconformist groups within the rapidly growing and industrialised city.

Whatever your worship style, you will recognise the various elements and component’s as we start ‘Unpacking the Eucharist’.

Please feel welcome to join and explore our understanding of The Eucharist and why it is that we do what we do!
