Step into the Christmas story with Leeds Minster’s life-sized Nativity scene…

10-12-25

Leeds Minster is bringing the Nativity story to life this Christmas – with life-sized crib figures!

Hidden around this Victorian church in the heart of the city, you’ll find Mary, Joseph (and the wee donkey), shepherds watching their flocks by night, and three wise men carrying their gifts to the manger.

As well as hosting a packed programme of services and events throughout Advent, the Minster is open Tuesdays-Saturdays 11am – 2pm for everyone to come and walk through this life-sized depiction of the ancient Christmas story.

Canon Paul Maybury said: “The Nativity has wisdom to offer us all at this time of year. God was born among us in humble surroundings, embracing the mess of humanity and bringing together the lowly and the rich as equals.

This year especially, as Leeds Minster is working towards becoming a Church of Sanctuary, we want to remember the reality behind the story of Christ’s birth – a family in need, far from home, who sought shelter in a borrowed stable, and fled persecution from authorities.

The crib scene will hold an important place in many churches around the country this season, and ours truly invites visitors and worshippers to step into the Christmas story.”

All are welcome to explore the life-sized nativity at Leeds Minster this Christmas. To plan your visit to the Minster head to www.LeedsMinster.org/your-visit and discover our full programme of events and services at www.LeedsMinster.org/Christmas
