Our pastoral vision

As a living community in the here and now, we have a vision that sets out how we strive to serve and help those who come to us.

Our Pastoral Vision involves the whole church community in learning to support and encourage one another, to welcome visitors and to grow new members. It is founded on fellowship and mutual care among members, both lay and clergy, as the Body of Christ.

Whether you’re a visitor, someone in need, enquiring about faith, someone who follows another Faith, or a member of Christ’s Church, here’s what you can expect from us.

Welcome

You will be made welcome

We offer a warm welcome to all who visit the Minster during its opening hours, and to everyone who attends any of our five weekly services.

We value and take an interest in each person as an individual: their faith, skills, needs and interests.

Our cafe offers hospitality during opening hours.

Sanctuary

You will be safe

Leeds Minster offers a safe space to people of all faiths and none who wish to visit the church for solace, peace and prayer. All visitors have the opportunity to place prayer requests in church, which will brought to midday prayers each week.

During opening hours, you will meet dedicated welcomers who are willing to listen to you, pray and chat with you, and offer refreshments. The Minster is also designated as a Warm Space for anyone who needs one.

As the Civic Church, we welcome people of all faiths and none to services marking occasions of joy and sadness within our civic and national life.

Community

You will become part of a community

We offer community-building events and create opportunities for fellowship and spiritual growth and support. These include regular discipleship courses on Sunday afternoons, preceded by lunch, as well as safely-organized social activities.

Care

We – and you – will care for each other

We foster caring relationships amongst members of the church. Everyone is encouraged to introduce themselves to people worshipping near them, to stay for refreshments to meet other people, and to pray for one another.

We have a team of appropriately vetted and trained Service Pastors who will work alongside licensed ministers and clergy to look out for new people, to help newcomers feel part of the community, to maintain contact with those who are unable to attend church, and to receive prayer requests.

Commitment

You will be able to grow and show your commitment

All members are encouraged to make a commitment to the mission and ministry of the church through volunteering (we have a wide range of opportunities) and regular giving.
