‘God freely doth forgive, but who shall tell the cost? Behold the Cross, and live!’
These words from Bryn Rees’ ‘The Saviour’ were set to beautiful and moving music by little-known composer William Lloyd Webber – father of the composer Andrew and cellist Julian.
For the first time ever, this compelling work of Christian evangelism has been recorded jointly by the Choir of Leeds Minster and St Peter’s Singers. This exclusive recording will soon to be released on the Priory Label, but you can purchase the CD at a special discount price of £10 here, with all proceeds going to support the Minster’s Ministry of Music.
Alex Woodrow, Director of Music at Leeds Minster, said:
“I was so moved, overwhelmed really, by The Saviour when the Minster choir sang it last March, and I was surprised to find it had never been recorded before. So I approached Julian Lloyd Webber, and he not only supported the idea but suggested it to Priory.
“It’s really fine music, with beautiful, captivating melodies and rich, even lush harmonies, and moments of ecstatic climax. But the text, too, is uplifting and full of hope.”
